For Principal Investigators

Your study responsibilities need a clear financial basis. PI PARTNER helps principal investigators understand how protocol requirements translate into site work and how that work is reflected in the proposed budget and financial terms.

We support the preparation and negotiation process so you can examine the assumptions behind a proposal. Clinical decisions, feasibility decisions and approval of contractual commitments remain with the responsible people at your site.

When support can help

You may be considering a new study with a budget that does not clearly explain the site's workload. You may have received a contract whose payment conditions raise operational questions. Or a protocol amendment may have changed the work after the original budget was agreed.

In each case, the task is to understand the difference between the resources the study requires and the financial treatment proposed. We help organise that assessment and the questions it creates.

Understand the consequences of unclear assumptions

When an activity has no clear budget treatment, the site may commit people and resources without a shared understanding of how that work is covered. When a payment trigger is ambiguous, the people delivering the study and those preparing an invoice may work from different expectations.

These issues are best considered before a commitment is made or a change is implemented. We do not attach an invented financial loss to them. We help you identify the actual activities, assumptions and terms that need attention in your circumstances.

How we work with you

We begin by clarifying the decision you need to make and the support you want. The scope can focus on protocol analysis and study budgeting, contracts and financial negotiation, or both.

After the assignment and document handling arrangements are agreed, we prepare the analysis using the relevant study information and your site's inputs. Questions requiring clinical or operational judgement are returned to the appropriate people. We review the findings with you and hand over the agreed outputs.

Where negotiation support is included, we clarify the approval route and authority to communicate positions. You can see what has been proposed, what has been agreed and what remains open.

A clear division of responsibilities

PI PARTNER prepares the financial analysis and negotiation support described in the proposal. Your site provides and validates its operational inputs, identifies authorised decision-makers and approves the positions it is prepared to take.

The service does not replace clinical feasibility assessment, ethics review, patient-care responsibilities or regulated legal advice. A qualified adviser should address matters that require legal advice. Neither the analysis nor the negotiation support guarantees a financial result.

Outputs you can use in the next discussion

Depending on the assignment, the deliverables can include an activity map, a structured budget, documented assumptions, a financial issues matrix and a record of open questions. The proposal states which outputs are included.

The handover connects each issue with the reasoning behind it. This helps you involve a coordinator, site manager or finance colleague without relying only on the memory of the last conversation.

Start with a short enquiry

Tell us your organisation, which service you are considering and the decision you need support with. Do not include patient data, a protocol or confidential sponsor information. We will agree how any necessary documents may be shared later.
